More Children With Autism Are Going To College Than Ever Before

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental delay and social challenge. Clinicians work with patients and give a glimpse of studies for autism, and go over the genetics, medication and how people with autism should prepare for college. There might a way to test children for ASD. So far, there have been "unprecedented advances" in the study of ASD. Researchers have found hundreds of genes associated with the ASD risk but appear to be related to neurodevelopmental disorders and psychiatric problems. With that they hope to find a new study but as of now they use children’s behaviors but end up having failure using their motor skills.

Researchers are trying to find new medication to target the symptoms going towards their hormones. The medication now specifically helps things like if their easily distracted, hyper, aggressive even anxiety but they are trying to find the medicine which would be less harmful with the side effects. Children with Autism are at the same risk of having obesity like others. They might have some different risk that would make them more susceptible to weight gain and sleep problems but other than that it can be the same.
Stomach pain could also be part of the symptoms of ASD, and treating that it could lessen the likeliness of those symptoms.

Kids with this disability can either be too responsive or not responsive enough for their body to function correctly. Back then doctors thought sensory symptoms were strange for people with autism. Researchers are establishing that the symptoms may be a core showing of ASD, and could be related to abnormal brain structure and while that’s being studied they are also trying to find new ways of therapy to help relax the people with this disability.

Children with higher functions of ASD are still going to college, but are at higher risk for developing psychiatric problems like anxiety, depression and most likely will drop out of college. To people with autism that do attend college, they should make a support system for them so it will help guide them with their troubles that they are having but some colleges don’t approve of the situation but some do take forth on it because they feel like they should still get the education they deserve.

New Drugs May Transform Down Syndrome

Do you know someone with Down syndrome? How do you feel with their appearance? Do you treat them the same? The people born with Down syndrome are always the ones considered to be the most delayed. In the past years, numbers of people have found better ways for people with this disability to be recovered by just medication. There are many current trials taking place to see how the treatments are progressing. A geneticist from Johns Hopkins University might have found another drug that would fix learning and memory deficits to their condition.

Down syndrome happens in about 1,000 births around the world. It comes from chromosome 21. Back in 2004 researchers hardly new that much of what they could do for the disability but all that has changed. Since then they have developed and become more aware of the disability. This improved knowledge base has led to discoveries with a therapeutic promise. Researchers attempted to restore the cerebellum in mice engineered to show the marks of Down syndrome. This lies at the base of the brain and controls motor functions, motor learning and balance. They hoped to gain a clearer picture of the developmental process that could lead to anomalies in a brain with Down syndrome.

A new way had been presented. They injected a newborn mouse with a chemical that stimulates a neurodevelopmental pathway that shows cerebellum growth. “We were not in fact surprised that we fixed the cerebellum. That was our working hypothesis,” they say but they did not anticipate that three months after the treatment the mice with a restored cerebellum would be able to learn and function properly. They don’t necessarily   know whether they repaired the cerebellum or if it’s responsible for more learning functions.

The treatments for Down syndrome target mainly cerebellum but none target the particular chemical pathway. These studies may point to a pharmaceutical intervention that could allow people with Down syndrome to live their lives more independently and freely without judgment or say. “The possibility of actually giving Down syndrome people the ability to improve learning and memory significantly—that's something I never thought I'd see in my entire career,” Reeves says. “And it's now happening. The game has changed.” From taking in all of what the researchers have shown, there are still lots of test taking place now to fully take care of the people with Down Syndrome and to show that even with a disability we all should be treated the same.

World Health Organization

There are over billions of people around the world, that have some sort of health disability. There are millions of adults and many children who have a some kind of difficulty functioning with themselves. Rates show that there are increases in disabilities in aging and severe health conditions. With that being said, people will have less health care and not reach their health care needs due to their disabilities.

The organization International Classification of Functioning, describes disabilities as an understanding for activity limitations and participation restrictions. Disability is a interaction with some type of health condition and personal environmental factors such as depression, negativity, limited social skills or transportation cut off. Billions of people are estimated to end up with some sort of disability in their life time. While some conditions associate with poor health health care, many others don't. However, everyone will still have the same health care plan even with disabilities. It is said that people with disabilities are getting more care than people without disabilities but have greater unmet needs.

Now when it comes to health promotion and prevention, they end up more targeting people with disabilities. People with disabilities are more likely to gain deficiencies in health care services. Depending on the person, he or she with that disability may see greater vulnerability to secondary conditions, co-morbid conditions, or age-related conditions. Secondary conditions happens in addition to the primary one, and both become more predictable and curable and same goes for Co-morbid conditions. The aging process begins earlier than usual and with that, people will start to develop premature aging.

Now when it comes to affordability and finances, affordability is a main reason why some people do not receive the correct health care they should get. There is a lack and limited services for people with these disabilities. The people with disabilities are more likely to report health care provider skills limited for their needs but more likely to be reported for being treated badly or denied. If there's one thing the government can do is improve the health outcomes for people with the disability which may give them better resources.

Introduction on Disability and Health

Hi my names Michael, the reason I chose the Disability and Health topic is because I actually know a lot of people that have all types of disabilities and I wanted to know more about why and how they have gotten what they have.
